Notes:

Near Stirling Castle, Scotland, is the church of the Holy Rood built in 1128. It became Protestant in 1560. John Know preached in this church a nd Mary Queen of Scots worshipped there. A serious dissention took place between members of the Protestant congregation. The matter was settled b y dividing the church into two parts by building a brick wall across the center. This wall remained for about 300 years and was finally removed about 1930 when the congregation once more united. In 1964 a bronze tab let on the wall had the following inscription: "To the memory of General Si r Samuel Graham governor of Stirling Castle who died 26th January 1821 ag ed 74 years also to the memory of Mrs. Jane Graham his wife who died 17 September 1846 age 78 years."
