From Burke, "Extinct Peerages of the British Empire": THOMAS D'ARCY, who, upon the assessment of the aid for marrying the kin g'd daughter in the 12th Henry II, certified that he then held twenty knigh ts' fees "de vcteri feoffamento", with half a knight's fee, and a fourth pa rt "de novo", for which he paid £13 6s. 8d. This feudal lord m. Alice, da u. of Ralph D'Eincurt, by whom he had three sons and four daus. He d. on S t. Swithin's day, anno 1180, leaving Thomas his son and heir, then eightee n years of age. Upon the decease of his lordship, William Bassett, sheri ff of Lincolnshire seized on his whole barony for the king, and committed i t to the custody of Michael D'Arcy*, but the baron's widow subsequently obtained the possession with the guardianship of her children, for whic h she paid £200. To Thomas D'Arcy succeeded his aforesaid son and heir, Thomas D'Arcy. * Michael D'Arcy's name appears neither in Burke nor in the Pedigree prepared by Mary Boulton. He had three sons and four daughters by Alice D'Eincurt

Notes:

Thomas D'Arcy, who was with King Richard I. in the expedition which tha t monarch made into Normandy in the 6th year of his reign, and in the 5th JOHN was retained to serve that king with three knights for one whole y ear in consideration of which King John remitted to him a debt of 225 marks , which he then owed the Jews; but besides this retainer he was to perfor m the like service for his barony that other barons did. His lordship was succeeded at his demise by his son, Norman D'Arcy.

Norman D'Arcy, who in the 7th of King John giving 500 marks, six palfre ys, with one horse for the great saddle, and doing his homage, had livery o f all the lands of his inheritance; but taking part with the barons, thos e lands were seized upon by the crown a few years afterwards, and held un til the pacification in the beginning of Henry III's reign, when they were restored. The baron died soon after and was succeeded by his son, Phili p.
