From "The Privileged Few": Moulton, the site of the Boulton estate, was located inland and southwest of The Wash, a bay on the North Sea known f or is treacherous currents and fog. Henry Boulton was the first to add Moulton after his name. The family motto was "Dux vitae ratio:" "The gu ide to life is common sense." Henry Boulton owned estates at Whaplode in Lincolnshire & at Oxenden in Northhamptonshire. He was the commissione r of the peace for the Counties of Lincoln & Rutland, a member of the Boa rd of Green Cloth *, etc which meant friends at court. So called "because the committee sit with the steward of the household a t a board covered with a green cloth in the counting-house, as recorders a nd witnesses to the truth." It existed in the reign of Henry I., and proba bly at a still earlier period.
